Universal Travel System Returns to Libya
  With the recent lifting of the ban on travel to Libya by the U.S. Government, Universal Travel System (UTS) of Santa Monica is once again offering tours to this North African country.

The 8-Day “Libyan Adventure” -- departing the last Friday of the month, beginning April 30 --includes visits to three UNESCO World Heritage sites. The tour is designed for those seeking out-of-the-way and intriguing places, but comfortable and safe travel. Tour participants stay in 5-star deluxe and first-class hotels.

The World Heritage UNESCO visits include the sites of:
  • Leptis Magna, one of the most beautiful cities of the Roman Empire, with imposing public monuments, manmade harbor, marketplace, store houses, shops and residential districts.
  • Cyrene, one of the principal cities in the Hellenic world, it was Romanized and remained a great capital until the earthquake of 365. It is situated on the crest of a hill next to the modern village of Shahat, founded in 6000 B.C. by Greek settlers.
  • Sabratha, a Phoenician trading post that served as an outlet for the products of the African hinterland. It was part of the short-lived Numidian Kingdom of Massinissa before being Romanized and rebuilt in the second and third centuries A. D.

Land cost is from $2,750. Round-trip air from New York, and within Libya, is approximately $1,375.
